The Cleland & Souchet company was formed in 1999 by Richard Cleland and Jean Galea Souchet to import wines from France and Italy. Within 2 years, the company expanded operations by opening a retail shop in a new luxury development called Portomaso. In 2004, with the entry of Malta to the EU, the company decided to expand its wine retail business. It began distributing wines to local hotels and restaurants.
Over the next two decades, the company continued to develop its luxury retail and wine import/distribution business. Today, Cleland & Souchet is considered the market leader in the luxury lifestyle retail sector and a dynamic and pioneering company in the wine distribution sector.
In 2014, the company created a café and wine bar concept to integrate into its luxury lifestyle retail shop in Portomaso. The objective was to serve a wider client base and to create a more welcoming environment for its luxury retail business. The cafe was called “C&S Wine Café” and it was a great success, soon opening a second outlet in 2016 in the Malta Intl. Airport departure lounge. The company’s café concept was further enhanced in 2023 with a major development of its design and menu offering and being renamed Cleland & Souchet Café.
The company’s wine importation and distribution business is made up of a portfolio of quality wines from all the important wine making regions of the world which the company distributes exclusively to the leading hotels and restaurants in Malta. The company also represents the world’s leading wine serving and preservation technologies from Bermar and Enomatic and other specialist wine equipment which it offers to its clients on very preferential terms
The company‘s retail concept has brought together the world’s top luxury brands for the home, inclu- ding Hermes, Baccarat, Lalique, Christofle and Ralph Lauren with leading international producers of distinctive gifts and a vast area for wines and fine foods all of which are totally exclusive to Cleland & Souchet. This has enabled the company to offer an exceptional selection of products matched with a truly superior level of service.
